1. Netiquette: Please follow basic online “Netiquette” while posting on this board. Network Etiquette or “Netiquette” for short are just common courtesy, social graces and socially acceptable behavior used on the internet anytime you e-mail, instant message or write on a message board such as this one. The Netiquette I value will be outlined in the rules I have here, but if you’d like to learn more about Netiquette in full, please visit this website:
2. Acceptable Language:
• No “Chatspeak” as this is a message board, not a chatroom or an instant message program (such as AIM, YIM, MSN, or ICQ) where I want you to think about what you post before you post it instead of instantly replying. Don’t worry too much about spelling mistakes; however that does not mean you can post in all lower case, upper case, or use abbreviations for words. Standard English rules apply here.
• No foul language – This should be self-explanatory however just in case I have enabled a word filter here but I appreciate it if it doesn’t get used by people not swearing in the first place on this message board.
3. General Conduct:
• Respect everyone even if you do not agree with them all the time as I want this place to be a good discussion message board for my classes where my students, their parents, and other educators feel safe in expressing their opinions as long as their not aimed to offend others or force unwanted issues. If we stay on topic and remember this is a school message board, then we should all do fine.
• No “Flaming”, “Spamming”, “Trolling”, etc.:
* “Flaming” is when you get angry with what someone else has written and then you post back in an angry, insulting or snide tone. While you may think you need retaliate or defend yourself instantly – don’t. The great thing about a message board is that you do not have to reply instantly to someone’s post. If something makes you mad, do one of the following: 1. Do not reply instantly, turn off the computer or get up and leave it alone, go so something else for a while to cool off, and later on come back and reply in a civilized manner. 2. Private Message or Email me and let me know so I can help resolve the issue.
* “Spamming” on a message board (as opposed to those annoying junk e-mails you get in your inbox) is when you constantly post one to five word answers only such as, “I agree,” “Ok,” or “So-in-so is cool!” Please make your post a full sentence (more than three to five words) or longer as this place is for discussion of class activities and I will be reading your responses here.
* “Trolling” is when someone posts offensive, off-topic material all over the board. I don’t expect my students would do this as usually they are advertisements of some sort and I will be deleting them and banning the IP addresses of those who post such things here. I like to mention this so you know what it is and not to do it here.
• Remember this is a school website, so the same rules you follow when you are in school apply here. The rule of thumb is, if you don’t think you should be doing it – then don’t.
I believe in the three strikes principle, thus you will be warned for the first two offenses with a Private Message explaining what you did. However if you do not abide by these rules even after my warnings I am not above banning such offenders from being able to post on this message board. I am the final word here as this is my message board - please remember this is to be used as a tool for learning purposes in my classes.
If you have any questions about these rules, please feel free to Private Message me or Email me. After both Student and their Parents have read this, please print these rules out, sign it and turn it in to Miss Royal in class.
